Katy ISD May Have To Cut Some Programs

KATY, Texas – Katy Independent School District administrators said they may be forced to cut about $50 million from the budget because of less money from the state.

Dozens of people went to the school board meeting Monday night to support a bilingual education program, where two languages are spoken in one classroom. Because of funding concerns, the district is taking a second look at this program and others.

Parents and students said they do not want to see the program go away.

"It is crucial that Hispanic students be educated in the most effective ways in order for the future workforce and Katy ISD to be successful," Linda Powell said.

The school district said that no programs have been cut yet.  It is waiting to see what decisions state leaders make in Austin before the end of this legislative session that will wrap up May 30.
