17 immigrants found locked inside trailer in Edinburg, reports say

EDINBURG, Texas – The Edinburg Police Department confirmed Sunday that 17 immigrants were locked inside the back of a trailer, according to KVEO News.

Police were notified by a concerned family member in Mexico who reported that a relative was trapped inside a trailer. He reported that the trailer was getting too hot inside for them, according to reports.

According to an NBC affiliate, a man and woman who were in charge of the trailer were detained.

Officials said the trailer was parked at a parking lot when the people were found. Officials said they knocked on the trailer and heard knocking from the other side, according to an NBC affiliate.

Officials said the 17 immigrants, who did not have documents allowing them to be in the United States, were from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Romania.

The U.S. Border Patrol is investigating the incident.
