1,600 private aircraft expected to land in Houston for Super Bowl LI

HOUSTON – Sixteen-hundred private aircraft are expected to land in Houston in time for Super Bowl LI.

The total includes about 500 already on the ground or on their way to Hobby Airport on advance of Sunday's big game. Many of them were arriving at Million Air.

It is like a yacht club for private jets.

It is the first impression for visitors from all over the world.

"It's a lot of fun,” Roger Woolsey, the CEO of Million Air, said. “We bring people in from all over the system. We've got people in all 30 locations Million Air (is) flying in as well. (Kind of) working positions. So it’s just a lot of buzz, a lot of fun and a lot of activity. We're excited about showing off Houston."

Crews at Million Air take care of the VIPs’ arrivals and take care of the flight crews. They were even setting up what might be the most sober Super Bowl watch party in the city.

The pilots and air crews will watch the game from an airplane hanger decorated for the game.

"The last Super Bowl really put Houston on the stage. So we built a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility.  This is one of the finest facilities in the entire country. We really want when people land in Houston, not to only think, you know, (of an) old cow town," Woolsey said.

He said Super Bowl weekend is the biggest event in private aviation.
