Sleeping in an adult bed or sleeping with adult caregivers emerged as major risk factors for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS.

SIDS cases have dropped dramatically since the 1990s when the "Back to Sleep" campaign launched, encouraging parents to put their babies to sleep on their backs rather than their stomachs.
