Device provides relief to families of patients living with Alzheimer's

GPS embedded in device can lead searchers to the missing

HOUSTON – A new device promises a new sense of security for families of patients living with Alzheimer's disease.

It comes in the form of a bracelet the patient wears.  Inside the bracelet is a small GPS tracking chip.  Founders of Care Trak, the company that makes the bracelets, said the GPS is turned on only when the wearer is reported missing.

According to the creator, the tracking system was developed in 1986.  Since then, the company's equipment has been used to locate thousands of Alzheimer's wanderers and children with special needs.
