Pearland, TX – Teachers at Silverlake Elementary, a school in Pearland ISD, returned to school Thursday to a surprise designed just for them, a newly refurnished teachers’ lounge meant to offer a comfortable place to recharge during long school days.
The makeover was made possible through a partnership between the Houston Home and Garden Show and American Furniture Warehouse, which donated brand-new furniture to completely refresh the space.

The upgraded lounge provides teachers with a place to eat lunch, make phone calls, and spend time with colleagues outside the classroom.
“They need a place to go where they can make phone calls and eat lunch with their colleagues,” said Dee Brown, PR lead for the Houston Home and Garden Show. “We’re back, they’re getting new furniture, and it’s going to be amazing.”
This isn’t the first time the Houston Home and Garden Show has given back to the school.
Two years ago, the organization partnered with Kitchen Tune-Up Houston to renovate the teachers’ kitchen. The latest project continues the group’s focus on supporting educators through community impact initiatives.
Along with the furniture donation, teachers also received gift cards from Randall’s to help stock the lounge with snacks.
“You want teachers to feel appreciated,” Brown said. “They dedicate so much to these students—why not give back to them?”
School staff members say the upgraded space is a meaningful reminder that their work is valued, offering a small but important break during busy days spent supporting students.
The Houston Home and Garden Show says it plans to continue similar projects across the community in the future.
