HOUSTON – Maya Angelou, activist and author of books such as “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings,” is the latest addition to Barbie’s “Inspiring Women” collection.

According to Mattel, the doll pays tribute to Angelou for her numerous honorary doctorates. She earned a Presidential Medal of Freedom for her 1970 autobiography and became the first African-American poet to speak at a U.S. Presidential Inauguration for Bill Clinton in 1993.

Pictures shared by Mattel showed the doll holding a replica of her autobiography, while wearing a head wrap and floor-length dress. Accessories also include a golden ring, bracelet, watch and earrings.

Mattel said in a blog post Thursday Angelou is the 10th honoree for Barbie’s “Inspiring Women” collection, which includes previous honorees Ella Fitzgerald, Sally Ride and Rosa Parks.

The doll is now up for preorder with a price of $29.99 and will be released after Feb. 8.
