NBC Must See TV: All-Star Tribute to James Burrows

HOUSTON – NBC is broadcasting an All-Star tribute to James Burrows on Sunday night at 8 p.m. 

Burrows, 75, is best-known for directing the long-running TV series "Cheers" for eleven seasons from 1982 through 1993. He directed 240 out of 275 shows during its run.

Burrows has won ten Emmy Awards and four Directors Guild of America Awards.

He is recognized as TV's most accomplished comedy director. He made his TV-sitcom directing debut with a 1974 episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." He directed the pilots for long-running comedies "Friends," "The Big Bang Theory," "Two and a Half Men" and "Mike & Molly."

Sunday's special will celebrate his 1,000th episode with his new NBC comedy "Crowded," for which he also serves as an executive producer.

"There is nobody with better TV comedy instincts than Jimmy Burrows, and because of his guiding hand these remarkable shows will be forever celebrated and stand the test of time," said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. "The caliber of talent joining us to celebrate Jimmy's accomplishments is a testament to his imprint in television history."

Many cast members from his shows over the years will be in attendance.
