Houston posts public pool inspection reports online. Here's exactly how to find them, and what to look for before you head out this summer. – If your planning on taking your kids to a public or commercial pool this summer, there’s something you can do before you even pack the bag. The Houston Health Department posts inspection reports for commercial pools and spas online. Guess what, they are free to look up.

The department is upfront that each report is only a snapshot of the date and time the inspection happened. Things can change but it gives you a starting point and for parents, that matters.

Here is how to find them:

Go to houstonhealth.org and use the search bar in the top right corner.

Type in “pool inspection reports” and it should auto-populate.

Once you’re on that page, click “Quick Search by Name” and type the name of the pool or facility you’re looking for.

One thing to keep in mind, the name you search may not match exactly. When we looked up the Alief Neighborhood Center, it didn’t come up by name. We found it by matching the address. So if your search comes up empty, try looking it up by location.

Once you find it, check three things:

  1. When it was last inspected
  2. Whether it passed
  3. If there were any violations listed

It won’t tell you what’s happening today, but it gives you a clear starting point before your kids get in the water.
