Several folks have reached out to me asking why the pedestrian warning signals along Shepherd and Durham streets aren’t working.
The signals are designed to alert drivers when pedestrians are trying to cross, but I am told they’ve been installed for some time, and that they did work for a few weeks before being covered up and becoming nonoperational.

So what’s going on?
The Shepherd and Durham corridor is currently undergoing a major reconstruction project, with work including new sidewalks, drainage, utilities and roadway improvements. The city says the project remains on schedule for completion in fall 2028.
I’d like to find out whether the pedestrian warning signals are part of that project, why they aren’t currently operating, and when residents can expect them to be activated.
