An AI-powered private school is coming to the Houston Heights.
Alpha School has confirmed it plans to open a campus at the former Goddard School at 777 W. 23rd St.

The school is currently targeting the 2027-28 school year for its opening, although that timeline could move up if enough families are ready to enroll.
And the price tag is significant. Tuition is about $50,000 per year!💰
So what exactly are families paying for?
How does Alpha School work?
Alpha’s model looks different from a traditional school.
Students spend about two hours each morning on core academics, using AI-powered learning tools.
The rest of the school day focuses on areas such as teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurship and real-world projects.
Those projects can take students outside the traditional classroom, including incredible field trips.
Alpha says students can learn physics through sailing, study sustainable agriculture in wine country and travel to places such as Italy and France.
How do students get in?
Alpha says grades and test scores aren’t a major factor considered during its admissions process.
Students take diagnostic tests designed to identify areas where they may need additional support.
They also participate in a shadow day, spending a full day at the school.
During that time, staff evaluate how students interact with their peers, work as part of a team and approach the school’s learning environment.
Alpha says it is looking for students who are interested in being there and committed to growing.
Each new Alpha campus typically starts with about 25 to 30 founding families before growing from there.
Why the Heights?
That’s one of the biggest questions surrounding the new campus.
According to Alpha, the Heights location came about after local families expressed interest in bringing the school to the neighborhood.
The school has not released renderings for the Heights campus yet.
