KPRC 2 is seeking a Digital & Social Producer to support the launch and growth of a new 10 p.m. accountability news program focused on investigative reporting, community issues, and public/government systems. This position is responsible for building and managing the show’s digital presence by creating original, platform-specific content that expands reach, engagement, and audience beyond the broadcast.
This is a dedicated, show-embedded role designed to ensure that this accountability content connects with viewers on social, mobile, and streaming platforms while supporting the goals of the nightly broadcast.
The Digital & Social Producer will report to the show’s executive producer and work closely with the show’s editorial team, including producers, reporters, and photographers.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and publish platform-specific digital and social content that makes the show a daily, must-follow brand across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and KPRC 2 platforms
- Edit and package video, graphics, captions, and headlines for optimal performance on each platform
- Develop social-first and mobile-first storytelling formats designed specifically for digital audiences, not just repurposed broadcast clips
- Collaborate daily with show producers and reporters to identify stories, clips, and angles with strong digital potential
- Support the development of digital storytelling that complements and enhances the broadcast
- Serve as the show’s primary digital voice, engaging with viewers, collecting feedback and story tips, and helping grow an active online community around the franchise
- Monitor audience engagement and performance metrics to guide ongoing content strategy and optimization
- Maintain brand, legal, and editorial standards across all digital content
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience producing or editing digital and social video content, preferably in a news or media environment
- Strong writing and editing skills for headlines, captions, and short-form storytelling
- Familiarity with major social platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook
- Working knowledge of video editing tools and basic graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced newsroom environment and meet daily deadlines
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Interest in investigative, enterprise, or accountability-focused journalism and an understanding of the Houston market and local issues are a plus
