Upcoming special election for Mayor Whitmire’s State Senate seat

Early voting takes place at the Warren City Hall, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, in Warren, Mich. In Michigan, a state that both sides say they must have to win the White House in 2024, a cloud of apathy has settled over the electorate. With the state's voters poised to cast ballots in their respective primaries on Tuesday and the prospect looming that they will be given the same choices in November that they considered four years ago, genuine enthusiasm is hard to find.(AP Photo/Carlos Osorio) (Carlos Osorio, Copyright 2024 The Associated Press. A special election kicks off next week for Texas Senate District 15.

The State Senate seat was held by Mayor John Whitmire for four decades but has been vacant since he resigned to serve as Houston’s mayor.

Three seats on the Harris County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors are also on the ballot.

Early voting runs from Monday, April 22 through Tuesday, April 30.

Vote centers will be open Monday through Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for Sunday, noon to 7 p.m. On Election Day, Saturday, May 4, vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth says there will be 25 early voting centers open, and 151 will be open on Election Day.
