HOUSTON – This week’s KPRC 2 and UTMB Health Athlete of the Week is Kingwood golfer Bella Flores. Flores, a senior, is headed to the 6A state tournament for the fourth time and is hoping to bring home a trophy this year.
Flores finished 7th at state in 2023, 10th in 2022 and 16th in 2021. She won the 6A Region III title and heads into state feeling good about her chances to make a run.
“I think my mental game right now is really good and my irons have been really solid,” said Flores. “My putting has helped me out when I’ve made mistakes with my driver, but I think I’ll get that under control before state.”
The senior is headed to play Division I college golf at James Madison University in Virginia, but not before trying to lead the Kingwood Mustangs to a state title.
“Her leadership is big,” said head coach Susan Willis, who led Kingwood to a 6A runner-up finish last season. “The way she practices, it’s an example to the rest of them that this is what you do to be good.”
