Deputy dies after being struck by vehicle while assisting another crash on Grand Parkway in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON – A deputy has died after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in northwest Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The Harris County deputy was assisting at a crash scene on the Grand Parkway at Cumberland Ridge Drive when he was struck by an ongoing vehicle.

Life Flight was called to transport the deputy to Memorial Herman in the Medical Center. He was listed to be in serious condition but it was later announced that he died from his injuries.

The deputy has been identified as John Hampton Coddou. He served at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for at least 20 years.

It is unknown if any charges will be filed against the driver involved.

SH-99 is shut down in both directions as the scene is being investigated.
