New Orleans residents, visitors prepare for soggy conditions

NEW ORLEANS – The rain from Tropical Storm Cindy soaked just about everyone and everything in New Orleans.

“My hair is wet. My feet are wet. And we’re trying to find souvenirs and dinner, and make it to a concert," Charlye Batten said. "An umbrella that I’m hanging on to for dear life. My sister got a poncho. Trying to keep dry. Not sure how that’s going.”

She and her sister came to New Orleans for what turned out to be a very soggy sisters’ weekend.

“A tropical storm. Yes, I live in Hurricane Alley,” Charlrean Mapson said.

It was not just downtown New Orleans, but Lake Ponchartrain as well, where the wind pushed the waves ashore.

“I think this is crazy. I’ve never been to N.O. before and it’s crazy to actually be in the midst of a tropical storm,” Chris Robinson said.

Back in central New Orleans, the sisters said they will make their memories, they hope, without flooding.

"This is supposed to be our sisters’ trip and we’ll never forget it," Mapson said said.
