Friday will be hot ahead of cold front

Much-anticipated cold front will swing through Saturday

HOUSTON – Look for a repeat performance on Friday of our recent weather pattern.

All week, highs have been well above normal, in the mid to upper 90s with heat index readings over 100 degrees. Expect a high near 99 degrees with "feels like" temperatures again between 100 and 105 on Friday.

Saturday marks a transition day for us, though, so don't get too frustrated. Our first significant cold front of the late-summer season is still poised to swing through Houston during the day Saturday. It signals a transition to much more tolerable temperatures through the first half of next week.  Highs will drop to the upper 80s and low 90s with nonexistent humidity.  Overnight lows will drop into the 60s.  You might actually be able to turn off your air conditioners at night, crack a window and allow some fresh air in your home.  It should be great sleeping weather!

Cold fronts often come with rain, too, but this one will be moisture-starved.  Don't expect much more than a few scattered light showers across southeast Texas on Saturday as this one comes through.  Most of us will miss out on the rain entirely.
