DEER PARK, Texas – A Deer Park woman was in Belize on Wednesday night when Hurricane Earl made landfall in the Central American country.

Tara Reyer told KPRC 2 that she was staying at a hotel in Belize City when the storm slammed into the coast about 9 p.m. She said the worst of the storm started about 11 p.m. and ended about 4 a.m. Thursday.

"I could feel the walls shaking last night," Reyer said.

Reyer said that she abandoned her room when one of the windows started to shatter. She said the windows of her hotel were blown out. She said she spent the night in a ballroom, the windows of which were also shattered.

"It was a pretty scary night," Reyer said.

Photos that Reyer shared with KPRC 2 showed flooding inside the hotel, trees that had been knocked down and some damage to structures.

Earl continued weakening as the storm moved inland. As of Thursday afternoon, the storm was a minimal tropical storm. It’s expected to move into south-central Mexico as a tropical Depression by Thursday evening.

With Earl remaining far south, Houston will not feel any effects of the storm.
