Ex-ROTC instructor accused of having sex with student, texting nude photos

PASADENA, Texas – Charges were officially filed Friday against a former Pasadena Independent School District's ROTC instructor.

Forty-three-year-old Derrick Pipkin is now facing five separate charges, including sexual assault of a child age 14-17, one charge of employing, authorizing, or inducing a child into a sexual performance, and three charges of online solicitation of a minor.

The instructor resigned from his job at South Houston High School in late October when the allegations initially surfaced.

According to court documents, Pipkin sent inappropriate text messages to at least three students, including naked photos of himself.

In the court documents, those text messages showed that Pipkin had sex with at least one of students. With that particular teen, police said the text messages lasted for about six weeks. Some of the text messages talked about the teen losing her virginity to the former instructor, police said.

In another message, police said Pipkin admitted knowing what he was doing was wrong, and said they had to be careful about her parents finding out or they would call the police and he would be in jail.

Channel 2 spoke to neighbors who described Pipkin as a family guy, and said the allegations don't make sense and they wouldn't believe them until they have proof.

"I really find it hard to believe. Because he's a very nice neighbor from the first day he moved in. He seems to be a family man. I just find it hard to believe. I haven't seen any proof and evidence to justify," Deborah Warren said.

The Pasadena ISD had not commented on the matter.

In November, when the allegations initially surfaced, the district sent out a statement, in part saying:

"The safety of our students is always our top priority.  A South Houston High School teacher recently resigned amidst allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student."

Pipkin has not yet been arrested.
