Texans won't wear 'color rush' uniform during Patriots game

Conflicting color scheme to blame, team says

HOUSTON – The NFL and Nike unveiled their new color rush uniforms that will be worn throughout the season during Thursday night football games.

The Houston Texans, along with the other 31 NFL teams, each had a specially designed uniform, though not all teams will actually wear them in a game this season.

The Texans are among several teams that will not wear them due to a color conflict with their opponent. Houston plays at New England on Sept. 22, and the Patriots will be wearing their color rush uniforms, which features a navy color scheme.

The Texans special uniform also features a navy color scheme. The Texans said in a statement that, as the road team, they would have to switch to an all-white uniform, since the Patriots would be in all blue.

The team also said their hope and expectation is to wear the uniform next season.

All of the NFL’s proceeds from the sale of color rush jerseys will go directly to the NFL Foundation to fund health, safety and wellness programs for youth around the country. The first $500,000 raised from this initiative will be earmarked to replace youth and high school football equipment, as well as fields lost in last month’s devastating floods in Louisiana.
