Texans look for redemption against Chiefs in Week 2

HOUSTON – The Texans are 1-0 to start the regular season after a Week 1 win over the Bears.

This Sunday, Houston has a chance for redemption against a Kansas City team that ended the Texans' playoff run with a 30-0 shutout last season.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien doesn't like to look in the past, but he said this is an exception.

"You know, that was the last game of our season last year. You have to look at that game," O'Brien said. "You have to think about what do you need to do to get your guys to play better and to coach better in that game. You have to take a peek at what happened last year. You have to study it. You have to make sure you fix it. We've spent a lot of time in the off season trying to fix those things."

The defense will have to make yet another adjustment after linebacker Brian Cushing left Sunday's game in the first quarter with a grade 2 MCL sprain. O'Brien expects Cushing to be back sooner rather than later.

"He's a guy that's obviously played a long time. He knows exactly what's wrong and he'll work very hard to get back as quickly as he can," O'Brien said. "I thought Max (Bullough) did a nice job in the game. I thought as the game went on, Max played better and better. I think Akeem Dent can come in there and help us, too. I think we have some depth there. Brian Peters. The next guy has to step up. It's going to be a group of guys That will step up and play for us."

The Texans will be without Cushing on defense, but JJ Watt is back and played the majority of snaps in the season opener.

"As the game went on, I thought he played better and better. He was getting more used to the speed of the game. He hadn't played in a long time. No training camp. I think you'll see the more he plays, he'll be back to what you're looking for," O'Brien said.

Kickoff is noon Sunday at NRG Stadium.
