HOUSTON – On a Thursday I walked into a local watering hole during the Rockets-Knicks series in 1994 and lo and behold Astronaut Alan Shepard was sitting with some people. An NBC producer gasped and said..."Look it's Alan Shepard". Shepard looked at our group and shouted, "look, it's Craig Roberts from ch. 2". The producer was really impressed. I think Alan stuck us for the tab. Speaking of NASA greats, I mc'd a fund raiser for UH Law and I had 2 partners. Buzz Aldrin and Racehorse Haynes. Buzz and I made one mistake. We gave Racehorse the microphone. He talked until the following Thursday.
How did this THURSDAY THROWBACK THING get started? Thursday was lonely since only Thanksgiving was claiming it. Now Thursday is the new Friday and in Houston I THINK WEDNESDAY MIGHT BE THE NEWEST FRIDAY. "Friday night lights" used to have all the swagger, now Thursday is stealing the thunder on the college, high school, and NF-HELL schedules.
