Nov. 10: Congressman Culberson says government shutdown was last resort

HOUSTON – On this weeks' Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall, Congressman John Culberson, Republican U.S. Representative from the 7th Congressional District, wades into a number of issues and is not shy about taking bold stands on any of them.

About the government shut down: "We were doing our best to compromise but these are matters of core principals the United States will go bankrupt. Barrack Obama and the Democrat party will bankrupt the United States of America."

On hiring the Israelis to set the tone for airport security in the United States: I'd hire the Israelis to  handle airport security and be a consultant to help us design the best airport security system we could possibly have and then the physical security of the airport itself should be left in the hands of the Houston police.

Culberson also has plenty of opinions about the Affordable Care act, the ability of Republicans and Democrats to work together, and issues on which they are united on behalf of Texans and much more.

Also this week you'll meet 88 year old Joe Morse, a World War II Navy veteran who represents one of the many being honored on veterans day by the Houston Astros.  The Astros are using Minute Maid Park as the gathering place for the event which will start at noon after gates open at 11am.

On Newsmakers to talk specifics about the Veterans Day event are Twila Carter, Project Manager of the Crane Group and the Houston Astros and Meg Vallaincourt, Sr. VP, Community Relations, Executive Director of the Astros Foundation.

Please tune in for great conversation and information on this week's Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall. Watch it Sunday at 10 a.m., right after Meet the Press with David Gregory.
