Yates High School basketball team awarded 2 state championships

HOUSTON – The Yates High School boys basketball team has been awarded two state state titles, officials announced.

The team will be designated as the 2013 and 2014 Class 3A Boys Basketball State Champions.

This follows a forfeiture by Dallas Independent School District's Madison High School.

"All of our players were people who worked so hard during the year and deserve everything they got and as far as we got, lost in the right way and handled that well, and I have no doubt they'll handle this part of it in the right way also ," said Yates High basketball coach Greg Wise.

"All year we have said do what's right... in the end if you do what's right, you will prevail," said Yates High School Principal Donetrus Hill.

Yates basketball coach Greg Wise said the school will get the players together to figure out the best way to honor both teams.
