Woman's peace of mind shattered after finding burglar in home while showering

HOUSTON – In the privacy of her own home.

In the privacy of her own shower.

A west Houston woman had her peace of mind shattered.

While taking a shower Tuesday morning she discovered a burglar inside her bedroom.

"It's the most terrified I've ever been in my life," she said.

Still too terrified to reveal her identity, she said the only thing she could think to do was scream.

That caused the burglar to run off, but not before he took her cellphone.

After calling police, she made some quick decisions to help restore that peace of mind.

"I went, got a new cellphone. As soon as I left there, I went to Carter Country to buy a gun," she said. "And then I went to another place to take lessons."

Neighbors said burglaries like this have increased over the last few years in the community. Many of them have taken numerous measures to increase their security, but they know there are some things they will never get back.

"It's very unsettling to think that I've been in my house for 25 years and felt so safe and now I don't anymore," she said.

The woman said the man ran to a white, four-door Mercedes-Benz that was backed into her driveway.

Police searched the area but have not located the thief.
