Woman found beaten, shot to death in SE Houston ditch identified

HOUSTON – A woman's body was found Sunday morning, lifeless and lying in a ditch in southeast Houston.

Investigators said Kumba Sesay's body was discovered near Southwind Street and Jutland Road, across the street from Jones Futures Academy. She appears to have died of an apparent gunshot wound to the head, police said. According to investigators, Sesay appeared to have been beaten and had severe trauma to the head.

The Houston Police Homicide Unit was called to the scene at 9:30 a.m.

Although Sesay's body was discovered lying in a ditch, investigators said they do not believe she was actually murdered there.

Instead, police believe the body was dumped in the ditch to make it more difficult to investigate.

Police said a dark-colored sedan of unknown make and model stopped in the area about 1:30 a.m. and then left the area a short time later.

Houston police have reached out to the school, which may have surveillance video of the crime.

Sesay was well known in the community and hosted a digital radio show.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
