Why Ronnie Killen is giving away free burgers

PEARLAND, Texas – Ronnie Killen, the award-winning Pearland chef known for his barbecue and steaks around the country, is apologizing to his customers by giving away free burgers.

Killen opened Killen's Burger on National Hamburger Day on May 28. It was a big turnout, with people lined up hours before the restaurant opened. But Killen wasn't entirely happy with the launch.

According to Killen's public relations manager Kimberly Park, Killen felt he didn't execute as well as he could have when the doors first opened, so he wants to make it up by offering free burgers and beer at the burger restaurant on Saturday.

Killen said this is his way of saying sorry for the long wait and any other issues with the restaurant opening in  the weeks that followed.

KPRC 2 covered the opening of the restaurant and interviewed Killen before doors opened.

"It's a good feeling to have people want to wait in line for your food. At the end of the day, that makes me better," Killen said.

Park said Killen has made improvements since the restaurant opening and has a better idea of what to expect with big crowds on any given day.

Texas Monthly recently named Killen's Burgers has one of the 50 best in Texas.

Killen will be offering free burgers and beer Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at his burger joint at 2804 S. Main Street in Pearland.
