HOUSTON – United Airlines' domestic flights ground stop has been lifted, officials said.
In Houston, thousands of passengers at Bush Intercontinental Airport were affected when they arrived late after being stuck on grounded airplanes for hours.
Michael Bolduca was supposed to fly from Houston to Chicago Sunday night.
“Oh man, we never got off the ground. I was supposed to depart at 5, we boarded the plane late and then spent more than two hours on the plane just waiting on the runway,” Bolduca said. “Finally, they brought us back to the gate and now I will be flying out tomorrow. I am beyond angry at this point. I’m exhausted.”
Dan Stine, a consultant in the oil and gas industry, was delayed at Bush Intercontinental as well.
“I’ve been flying a long time, this stuff happens and you just have to go through it. I will finally fly out later tonight. I will be fine,” Stine said.
Flights were grounded until 9:12 p.m. Sunday due to a computer outage, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
International flights weren't affected by the ground stop, which the FAA said was issued at United's request, NBC news reports.
According to NBC News, U.S. officials said that the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System was having issues with low bandwidth.
United Airlines released the following statement:
“We have issued a ground stop for all domestic mainline flights due to an IT issue. We are working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue and get out customers to their final destinations. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”
