UH Downtown changes graduation date again

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Downtown is reacting after students expressed anger over a changing graduation date.

Seniors thought they would graduate on Saturday, May, 23. Then they were told they would instead graduate a day earlier on Friday, May, 22.

Nataly Trevino is a fulltime student and works fulltime. She has studied for four years. The date could have meant some of the people closest to her would not be able to attend.

"It's very hard," Trevino said. "It's been a long journey. Some of my family members won't be able to make it. They've waited so long. I'll be the first one in my family to graduate from college and to have some of them not be here, it really affects us all."

Trevino and other students said they found out March 9 through email. They say many people work that Friday or had already made travel arrangements for the Saturday graduation, which falls two days before Memorial Day.
