U.S. Marshal involved in fatal shooting in N. Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting involving a U.S. Marshal on Friday.

The shooting happened at the Airtex Food Mart, at 1201 E. Airtex Drive.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it all started as a stakeout at a residence nearby. According to deputies, officers with the Texas Department of Corrections and the U.S. Marshals Service were watching the home because they were looking for a convicted felon believed to be there.

Officials said the felon was wanted for robbery and aggravated assault.

While officers were watching the home, a white vehicle left the house, so they followed it to the Airtex Food Mart.

KPRC 2 is told a woman who was driving the vehicle got out to go into the store. That's when officers approached her and asked about the felon they were looking for.

Deputies said the officers noticed someone moving in the back seat of the car while they were questioning the driver.

They approached the vehicle, and that's when the suspect they were looking for got out and confronted them.

"As the officers approached the vehicle, the suspect exited the vehicle with a weapon drawn and pointed it at the officers," Sgt. Cedrick Collier, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said. "The officers at that point discharged their weapon, striking the suspect several times. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Authorities said there was a small child in the back seat of the car with the suspect, but the child not injured.

Officials are not releasing the names of the suspect or the officer involved in this shooting.
