Rosenberg man among 2 killed in College Station shooting

Third person injured, police say

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A man from Rosenberg was among two people killed in a shooting at a College Station apartment complex early Sunday, police said.

The shooting was reported about 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of Luther Street.

College Station police said officers arrived to find 20-year-old Brysen Rhodes, of Wortham, and 20-year-old Jack Lopez, of Rosenberg, lying just outside the apartment, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men died of their injuries.

Another man, who has not yet been identified, was found lying in the living room, suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg and stomach, police said.

He was treated and released from the hospital Sunday.

A woman was also found inside the apartment, investigators said. It is believed she locked herself in a bathroom when the shooting started and called for help.

Investigators said that evidence shows Lopez planned to meet Rhodes at the apartment. During that meeting, shots were fired.

Investigators said at least one other person was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. They said that man arrived at the apartment to either purchase drugs or commit a robbery. They are trying to find him.

Friends told KPRC 2 News Lopez grew up in Rosenberg.

"I lost my brother," said Keandre Smith, who described Lopez as a lifelong friend.

Lopez attended Lamar Consolidated High School, where he was known as an outstanding football player. Recently, he started to focus on school and his music career.

"He was on varsity his freshman year of high school. You know, he was meant to be something," said Byron Bolden, another childhood friend.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call College Station police at 979-764-3600.
