Third graders clock in millions of minutes in reading competition

HOUSTON – More than 800 third grade students filled the University of Houston to cheer on the NCAA Final Four — and not for basketball.

The children were celebrating reading during a competition, which started with 68 schools and is now down to four.

The students participating in the Read to the Final Four program have logged close to three million minutes in the past six weeks. The winning school will be announced at the Reese’s Final Four on Apr. 1.
