Thieves steal hoverboard from teen in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – A 14-year-old Houston boy had his hoverboard stolen by three suspects with a gun Tuesday.

DeMario Evans was riding his brand new board in his Southeast Houston apartment complex on Tanner Park Court when three men got out of a parked car, tried to get his attention then fired two shots into the air.

“They got out of the car and they shot,” Evans said. “I took off running.  They were shooting and I got scared.”

The suspects grabbed Evans’ $400 hoverboard and took off.  Some neighborhood kids saw what happened and ran to get Evans’ mother.

“I wasn’t worried about the board, I was worried about him. At the time I was like, ‘Where is my son, where is my son?’” said Lakeshaun Barr.  “It’s scary, very scary.”

Barr wants other parents to know about this.  She said if it can happen to her kid it can happen to other kids, too.

“Just be safe,” she said.  “Watch  your kids at all times. These boards are very, very expensive.”

Houston police were called to the scene  and are now investigating.

Evans said the three suspects were sitting in a brown, older model Toyota Camry.
