Police find boy, 14, shot to death in ditch in north Houston

HOUSTON – Investigators are looking for leads after the discovery of a 14-year-old boy shot to death in a ditch in a north Houston neighborhood.

We spoke with neighbors who heard the gunshots at around 10 Wednesday night but when they came outside, they didn't see anything suspicious. It wasn't until a few hours later when they found the body in a ditch.

"A little kid's body sitting right there and his shoes and everything," said resident Jade Rogers.

Neighbors are left shocked and confused after finding a 14-year-old boy shot multiple times and left in a ditch. Family members identified him as Anthony Chavez.

"He was face down and his feet were like this here. I am assuming he was at the park or something. He had basketball shorts on and tennis shoes," said Rogers.

Before 10 p.m. Wednesday, the victim's family says he left their apartment on Whitney and Werner to head to the basketball court down the street.

"I heard five shots. I came out of the driveway and I looked both ways and I never saw anything," said an unidentified neighbor.

Investigators were called out at around 1 a.m. and found the boy's body. They say he was shot multiple times and several shell casings were found at the scene.

"I mean there is gunshots around here all the time. I have heard them that way, but that is the first time it has been this close to home. It is freaking me out," said Rogers.

So far no arrests have been made.

"It is frustrating knowing that people are killing kids for no reason," said Rogers.

If you have any information on this shooting, you are asked to call the Houston Police Department.
