HPD: 1 killed, 2 injured in officer-involved shooting in northwest Harris County

3 shot at northwest Harris County pawn shop

HOUSTON – One person was killed and two others were injured Friday in a Houston Police Department officer-involved shooting.

According to officials, the shooting was reported just after 10 a.m. at the Valu Plus Pawn shop in the 13000 block of Veterans Memorial.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Thomas Gilliland, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said in a news conference Friday that a group of four or five men smashed glass cases and took jewelry and other merchandise from the pawn shop.

HPD officers spotted the men behind the shop, leaving the store, Gilliand said. The officers ordered the suspects to drop their weapons, but deputies said they refused. Officers began shooting, killing one man and leaving two more in critical condition, according to Gilliand.

The accused getaway driver was taken into custody, officials said.

Authorities said they found two weapons, merchandise and cash inside the suspects' vehicle.

No customers were inside the pawn shop at the time of the robbery.

Harris County sheriff's deputies are investigating.
