Texans P Shane Lechler named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

HOUSTON – The NFL named Houston Texans punter Shane Lechler the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, after the team's 20-13 win against the Detroit Lions on Oct. 30.

During the game, Lechler, 40, averaged 49.5 net yards on four punts, the longest average of any punter in the NFL for the week.

He also pinned 3-of-4 punts inside the 20-yard line, which tied for the second-highest total in the league that week. Playing in his 262nd career game, Lechler tied Ray Brown for the 27th-most games played in NFL history.

This is Lechler’s first time to win the award, but it is the 38th time for a Texans player to win. He has punted for the Texans since 2013.

Texans WR Will Fuller won the award in Week 4 thanks to a fourth-quarter punt return for a touchdown against the Titans.
