Teen with brain-eating amoeba dies

HOUSTON – A local 14-year-old boy battling a brain-eating amoeba has died.

Family members posted on Facebook that Michael Riley Jr. had passed away late Saturday night.

Doctors believe the amoeba entered through Michael's nose and got into his brain after he jumped into a lake at Sam Houston National Forest on Aug. 13.

Michael's family said they will focus on supporting research that may help others who get sick from the same condition in the future.
