Teen shot, another hurt after attempted robbery in east Houston

HOUSTON – A homeowner shot and killed a teen and injured another in an attempted robbery in east Houston.

Police said a father and son were in the backyard of their home in the 800 block of Majestic near Market Tuesday night when two teens approached them.

According to investigators, it appeared the teens were trying to rob the two. One of the teens raised a gun at the residents, causing the son to pull out his gun and open fire.

"Next thing you know, I see one of them, he jumps into my property, takes a gun out and points it directly at us," the homeowner said. "My first reaction was to shoot them, you know, it was my life or my father's life or their life. I get to that point in my emotions where I feel guilty -- not guilty -- but I had to make a choice you know."

Both teens were hit. One died at the hospital.

The other ran back home, where his parents called 911 when they realized he had been shot, according to investigators. The teen is recovering from minor injuries.

The homeowner noticed the two teens going up and down the street several times before they were approached, police said.

The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
