Man arrested in teenager's shooting death, police say

HOUSTON – A man accused of fatally shooting a teenager May 5 in southeast Houston was arrested June 20, police said.

Angel “Fat Angel” Lopez is charged with murder and aggravated assault against a public servant.

The shooting incident was reported at 12:10 a.m. in the 6700 block of Westover Street.

Officers found Joshua Reyes, 17, lying in the street near the curb. Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Houston police said Lopez, 18, and Reyes had been in the street arguing over drugs and money. Police said the argument turned deadly when Lopez pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at Reyes.

An officer nearby heard the gunshots, drove toward the incident and saw Lopez get in a gray Nissan Sentra.

Police said when the officer attempted to catch up with him, Lopez slowed for a sharp curve in the road.

Police said Lopez pointed the gun out the driver’s window toward the officer, causing the officer to slow down

Police said Lopez then sped off at a high rate of speed.

Police said the Nissan was later recovered several hours later.

Lopez was arrested without incident Monday.
