Police: Store clerk kills robber during east Houston shootout

HOUSTON – One person was killed and a store clerk was shot several times Thursday during an attempted robbery in east Houston.

Police said that about 9:30 p.m., two armed people entered the Uvalde Tobacco convenience store in the 600 block of Uvalde Road. The clerk noticed the men trying to rob the store, pulled out a gun and shots were exchanged, police said.

The clerk, who was shot several times, killed one of the robbers. The other robber fled, police said.

The clerk was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Police released surveillance video of the people believed to be responsible for the robbery.

The identity of the robber who was killed was not immediately released
