Spring's Simone Biles signs copies of book in Houston area

HOUSTON – Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles returned to her hometown of Spring Monday to sign copies of her autobiography for fans.

Biles had two scheduled appearances at the World Champions Centre in Spring, where she spent much of her career training.

"The crowd was really good,” Biles said of the Monday morning book signing. “The kids were super excited and cute and were asking all these questions, so for me it's an honor to be able to meet them."

Biles’ book, “A Courage to Soar: A Body In Motion, a Life in Balance,” hit store shelves last November and is a best-seller on Amazon.

"I guess it was another dream come true to have a book, because you dream of like, doing all these things as a little girl and it comes true. And I remember signing a whole stack of them and I'm like, 'Mom, I have a book out. This is crazy,'" she said.

The book discusses Biles’ Olympic aspirations and achievements, but is also a deeply personal tale of her upbringing as a foster child, and her eventual adoption by her grandparents.

Biles hopes that her story will help other children who come from similar home environments believe that they can achieve success.

"I think it inspires (children) because they might be going through the same situation or maybe they've been adopted. So I think it's good for them to see that and have a role model,” Biles said.

Biles has another appearance scheduled for Tuesday at Katy Mills Mall, where she will sign copies of her book at the Books-A-Million store.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and advance purchase of tickets is required.
