Pilot dies after small plane crashes near Pearland Regional Airport

PEARLAND, Texas – A man has died after a small plane crashed during takeoff near the Pearland Regional Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA said an experimental category Wittman Tailwind aircraft crashed around 5:30 p.m. on County Road 127 and County Road 124.

There was only one person on board at the time of the crash, According to DPS Trooper Woodard. Jared Baxter Ryan, 36, of Houston, had just purchased the plane on Wednesday. According to the FAA, he received his pilot's license in 2011.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of investigating the crash and the FAA will be assisting.
