Sandra Bland rally held outside Waller County Jail

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – Supporters of Sandra Bland gathered Wednesday afternoon at the Waller County Jail.

The group, led by the New Black Panthers Party, held a rally to demand answers after Bland was found dead in her jail cell on July 13, three days after she was arrested during a traffic stop.

On Sunday, tempers flared and a large crowd of protesters started pushing its way into the lobby of the Waller County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies took precautions Wednesday and set up concrete barriers.

The protesters left by mid-afternoon, but the metal and concrete barriers are still in place.

The smaller but still vocal group were seeking answers about what happened to Bland.

"The sister was pulled over for a traffic violation because that sheriff didn't have the proper training or he just didn't give a damn," said Tomika

The protest drew a mix of young and old who say Waller County's racial divide and wounds run deep.

"I've never seen real Black Panthers in this town before so I'm just here observing," said Tomika Guillory.

Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith addressed new controversies that a former Waller County judge arrested inside the lobby of the Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning.

"I have no problem with people protesting out here and expressing they're concerns," said Smith.
