Rockin' K Maze creates tribute to Whataburger

ROBSTOWN, Texas – If you’re looking for your Whataburger fix this fall, head out to a big field in south Texas for a different way to enjoy what most Texans have loved for over 50 years.

Klepac Farms in Robstown has created an homage to its favorite burger joint in a 6-acre maze. From above, can see the Whataburger logo and the year it started. On the ground, you can wander through more than 3 miles of twists and turns.

“We grew up around farming and Whataburger,” family spokeswoman Rachelle Klepac said.  “We would pick up Whataburger and take it to the fields and wanted to highlight a family-owned local business.”

Whataburger began in Corpus Christi when Harmon Dobson opened a burger stand. The fast-food chain has grown to 790 locations across the country.

Visitors can navigate the maze through a direct map or an age-appropriate passport, or pick up the Whataburger Trivia Passport for a more challenging way to get through the labyrinth.

The passport includes interactive trivia questions that will lead you to a dead end if you answer incorrectly and the right way if you answer correctly.

This is the third year that the farm has created the Rockin’ K Maze for visitors. Former designs have included tributes to agriculture and Coca-Cola.

According to Klepac, the family and farm staff planted and cut the maze themselves after a graphic designer created a computer-generated design of the trails. In the offseason, it’s a fully operational farm.

Last year the maze had over 28,000 visitors. The Rockin' K Maze also includes other family events, including the Farmer’s End Zone, Lil Farmer’s Corner and Farmer’s Foosball, where patrons can enter the field and kick the ball.

Although Whataburger isn’t served on the farm, visitors have a lot to eat at the Kountry Kitchen.

The farm is open on weekends from Oct. 1 to Nov. 20.  Tickets for the maze are sold online or on site. To plan your visit, go to rockinmaze.com.
