Residents fight off home invasion suspects, killing 1 in SE Houston

1 dead, 1 arrested

HOUSTON – Residents fought off home invasion suspects Monday at a southeast Houston apartment, killing one of them, according to Houston police.

Officials said a man and a woman forced their way into an apartment in the 8000 block of Meadowbrook Drive in an attempt to steal TVs, police said.

A man and woman, both in their 50s, fought back and stabbed both suspects, killing Randy Flores, 26, according to reports.

Police said Danielle Cano, 29, left the scene, but was later arrested at the corner of Howard Drive and Winkler Drive, not far from the scene of the robbery. She has been charged with robbery and bodily injury.

The two residents were injured and taken to the hospital. Police said the residents were beat up, leaving them with bruises on their heads and busted lips.

Police said the male resident was beaten by Flores with the TV he was attempting to steal.

The female resident attempted to call 911, but police said one of the robbers slapped the phone out of her hands. A neighbor was the one who made the 911 call.

Police said the male resident grabbed a large kitchen knife during the robbery and stabbed both Flores and Cano.

Cano left the Meadowbrook location and was found by police nearby.

Police said they are not sure if the couple was targeted or if it was a random attack.

Police said they are not sure if Flores and Cano were armed at the time of the crime, but at this time, they do not believe they were.
