Pony presumed stolen from Galveston County

Group says person cut fence, stole animal named Reynolds

LA MARQUE, Texas – Workers and volunteers with the group Habitat for Horses are looking for a horse that was stolen from their 50-acre piece of property in La Marque.

Reynolds is a 6-year-old pony who went missing Sunday night.

"Every morning we feed, and as they eat we count to make sure everybody is accounted for, this morning we were missing one horse," Denise Robinson, who works for the organization, said.

Habitat for Horses rescues abused and neglected horses, rehabilitates them, nurses them back to health and then adopts the animals out.

There are usually 46 horses kept on their land in La Marque, but Monday morning Robinson noticed there were only 45. Workers began to scour the area for Reynolds, thinking he was hiding, injured or stuck in some vines.

Instead, they discovered Reynolds had been stolen.

"While we were searching, we did find a piece of fence that had been cut," Robinson said.

They believe someone cut the fence, pulled up a horse trailer and coaxed Reynolds to get in.  They say he was a friendly horse, who loved people and probably didn't put up a fight.

"It's possible he was an easy target."

Now Habitat for Horses wants him back and is asking people in the community to keep an eye out. They are offering a $1,000 reward and anyone with information should contact the La Marque Police Department.

"I'm hoping someone finds him and returns him to us."
