HOUSTON – The Greater Houston Coalition of Justice is demanding that President-elect Donald Trump apologize "to the nation for all offensive statements made about women and our diverse community."
The group met with reporters at an English-Spanish theater in Second Ward on Thursday morning and said that immigrant and minority groups in Houston have expressed fear and concern about Trump's rhetoric throughout the election.
GHCJ said that many families are afraid for their safety and/or of being deported under a Trump presidency. However, the organization is urging folks to remain peaceful and be patient with the outcome of this election.
"We need to try and get people not to be too worried about our president-elect's comments. Because there are a lot of things that he won't be able to do," said Mustafaa Carroll, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
"We have a Constitution, we have rights, and they need to settle down their nerves because there's a process for every issue on hand."
