A Precinct 4 deputy said he was driving north on the freeway when a black car hit his cruiser and then fled the scene. He said his cruiser flipped four times before coming to a stop.

Deputies said they began searching the area and located the driver of the car, identified as Daniel Cadiz, still in the vehicle that hit the deputy's cruiser.

Cadiz told deputies that he was racing another car when he hit the deputy's vehicle and left the scene because he did not have a driver’s license, investigators said.

Cadiz was arrested Wednesday and charged with racing on a highway and third-degree failure to stop and render aid in an accident involving serious bodily injury. He was released from jail on $5,000 bond.

The condition of the deputy was not immediately released.
