Officer involved in nightclub shooting in northeast Houston

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting at a northeast Houston nightclub.

Police were called around 2 a.m. Tuesday to Mr. A's nightclub in the 3400 block of Cavalcade Street. According to investigators, the officer was working security at the nightclub when a fight broke out in a back room. During the fight, the officer saw someone reach for a weapon and that's when he drew his gun. In the chaos, the officer was pushed to the ground which resulted in his gun discharging and a person hit.

Earl Wayne Brown, 48, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. 

The officer who discharged his weapon, Sergeant K. Green, was not injured. He has been on the force since December 1984 and is assigned to the Burglary and Theft Division with the Houston Police Department.

The officer has been placed on desk duty for three days. 

HPD Homicide, the Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office is conducting a routine investigation.
