According to Houston police, Jackson was a recently-hired employee at the center at 7110 Mykawa.

Deshona Prince, who claims to be Jackson's girlfriend, said he had been trying to get a paycheck from UPS for several weeks. He went there to pick up the check around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and was told he could not have it, she said.

Jackson became upset and police were called.

Police arrived to find Jackson standing next to his vehicle in the parking lot and armed with a shotgun.  Sergeants gave repeated verbal commands for him to drop the weapon, but he refused.

Jackson then raised his weapon and pointed it toward officers, police said.  That is when, fearing for their safety, the two officers opened fire. Jackson also discharged his shotgun, then placed it on the ground and surrendered.

No one was hurt.

According to UPS, drivers had already left the facility and other employees at the location were secured until police cleared the scene.

The company also said in a statement, "The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority. UPS is cooperating with authorities as they continue an investigation."
